Chardham -It is located in the Garhwal region of the state of Uttrakhand. Akha-teej marks the beginning of the Char dham yatra. The ‘Yatra’ typically closes 2 days after Diwali.

It covers - 

1.     Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna River and the head of the goddess Yamuna.

2.     Gangotri, the source of the Ganges and head of the goddess Ganga.

3.     Kedarnath, where the supreme Shiva is venerated as one of the twelve jyotirling.

4.     Badrinath, the seat of the god Vishnu in his aspect of Badrinarayan

DO Dham -Do dham consists of two ancient shrines namely- Kedarnath and Badrinath. Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, about 3,583 m (11,755 ft) above sea level near Chorabari Glacier, the head of river Mandakini, and is flanked by snow-capped peaks, most prominently Kedarnath mountain. While Badrinath is a hold town located in Uttrakhand elevated to 3,300m (10,800ft) above the sea level.The temple in Badrinath is also a sacred pilgrimage site for Vaishnavites. Badrinath is also gateway to several mountaineering expeditions headed to mountains like Nilkantha. In earlier days, pilgrims used to walk hundreds of miles to visit Badrinath temple.
